Charlotte is the largest city in the state of North Carolina and the 20th-largest city in the United States.
It is the largest city between Baltimore, Atlanta, and Jacksonville (though other metropolitan areas in the
region are larger).

but was driven out soon afterwards by hostile residents, prompting him to write that Charlotte was
